Weld Failure Analysis

Practical Experience

Vista Engineering’s welding consultants have investigated and solved complex welding problems involving various materials and welding processes. We can identify welding failure types such as cracking, inclusions, and lamellar tearing in many different alloys. Their understanding of potential imperfections from welding processes allow them to provide guidance in the techniques to limit or reduce these imperfections. Our scientists and engineers use a wide range of weld and joint failure analysis techniques to determine failure modes and locations on welded structures.

Welding Consultants

Welding is the process of joining together metal pieces or parts by heating the surfaces to the point of melting using a blowtorch, electric arc, or other means, and uniting them.  Welding is utilized in every industry and is an important manufacturing process to make tools and equipment we use every day.  Welding includes common welding processes as well as brazing, soldering, and the solvent welding of many plastics. Vista Engineering’s consultants have specialized experience in many joining processes such as gas metal arc welding (GMAW/MIG), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) and gas tungsten arc gas welding (GTAW/TIG).

Dr. Raymond Thompson is a Fellow of the American Welding Society and has been awarded the Life Membership award among many other recognitions. Please see our post here for more information.
