Raymond Thompson will receive the American Welding Society (AWS) Life Membership Award at its annual meeting in Atlanta, Georgia in November, 2018. Dr. Thompson has served the American Welding Society for 35 years, participating on many of its committees.

Other American Welding Society Honors

In 2005, Dr. Thompson was honored by election to Fellow of the Society. He received the prestigious Savage Award in 1995. This award was given by AWS for the outstanding publication in the Welding Journal in 1995 with Viola Acoff, Robin Griffin Foley, and Rad Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Thompson received the Adams Award by the Society in 1985. This is an annual award given to the university educator who demonstrated spot welding outstanding service in teaching and research related to welding metallurgy and processing during the year.

Welding in Engineering Consulting Practice

Today, welding is a highly technical process that requires precision control of heat energy to melt and fuse metals together. When done right, welding is the best way to make many joints. When done poorly, welded joints can fail unexpectedly causing significant loss of property and personal injury. Vista Engineering has studied, researched, practiced, designed and forensically investigated the welding process and welded products for 40 years.

We have helped solve welding problems for our industrial clients in a variety of metals and applications including longitudinal seam welds in titanium tubes, longitudinal seam welds in steel cylinders, circumferential welds in Inconel 718 jet engine nozzles, AWS D1.1 weld specifications for structural steel welds, AWS D1.2 weld specifications for structural aluminum alloys, and spot welds in steel sheet.

From the American Welding Society:

The American Welding Society (AWS) was founded in 1919, as a nonprofit organization with a global mission to advance the science, technology and application of welding and allied joining and cutting processes, including brazing, soldering and thermal spraying. AWS strives to move the industry forward in both thought and action, as well as inspire new generations to see the exciting career opportunities available today. (more…)
